Effective reduction of geological risks while exploration and reserves update are the main competitive advantages of petroleum companies. Modern Rock Physics techniques allow to get a new angle on seismic data providing insight into lithology, reservoir quality, oil or gas availability, and gas-oil contact, which are of critical importance for accurate reserves estimation and correct risk assessment.

Practice-oriented training «Modern ROCK PHYSICS: Quantitative interpretation of seismic data» is aimed at development of expert competence level in Rock Physics activity.

The program includes:

  • Amplitude analysis, AVO modeling and analysis technics;
  • Quantitative interpretation of seismic inversion results;
  • Petrophysical modeling, calculation of rock, fluid and minerals petrophysical properties;
  • AI VpVs parameters modeling;
  • Rock Physics model for quantitative interpretation of seismic data;
  • Spectral decomposition;
  • Formation parameters prediction (porosity, fluid phase, lithology, shaliness) and sweet spot identification;
  • Case studies and practice with real data, application of Rock Physics techniques and drilling results analysis.

The study is based on a task-oriented approach. Short training course contains a minimum of theory and a maximum of AVO, inversion and modeling practice.

Course lecturer – Rafig Manafov – a Leading geophycisist/geologist of Mitsui Oil Exploration Company (Norway) with 15-years of petroleum exploration experience on Norwegian, British, Danish, Russian, Azerbaijani and American fields, as well as at North, Barents, Norwegian Seas and South Caspain basin in such companies as British Petrolium, Maersk Oil, LUKOIL and Mitsui. Also he is a member of EAGE/SPE and AAPG, a science writer and has a master degree of Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
