Valuable employees. Who are they?

«The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn», A. Toffler

«No individual is irreplaceable …». Bosses are fond of this phrase, they attribute it to Joseph Stalin and follow his people “cogs” management tips. It does not matter who actually is the author - Louis-Antoine Caraccioli, Woodrow Wilson or Pablo Picasso. Each of us wants to be an indispensable employee considered as valuable as gold and carefully protected form headhunter.

In Russia professional skills nonconformity is noted among 50% of employees (BCG). Only 17% of managers stated a high readiness of employees for adaptation and retraining (Deloitte). By 2025, 85 million traditional workplaces will disappear, and 97 million new jobs in “green” economy, artificial intelligence and big data economy will appear (Strategy Partners).

The picture of an ideal employee is formed according to forecasts of labour market experts and employers’ surveys:

  1. Process automation and digital services development require digital skills such as cloud computing, big data analysis, encryption and security, text, image and voice processing, machine learning, neural net, natural language processing, digital marketing, internet of things, software development, etc.
  2. Human interaction specialists are highly demanded: counseling, team building, staff well-being programs development, decision making, project management, etc.
  3. Professionals at the interface of liberal arts and technology (Robotics designer, Molecular nutritionist, Biohacker, Body designer, Online doctor, Online guide, etc.) able to multitask (teacher-programmer-cash keeper, writer-targetologist-manager, seller-SMM manager, etc.) are valued.
  4. Exclusive attention is paid to eco-jobs, ecological thinking and eco-awareness building, “green” standards implementation, green audit, etc.
  5. In addition to general knowledge it is essential to have deep knowledge in a specific area (hard skills) or develop some skill to exceptionally high/international level.
  6. Human (soft) skills are of great importance: high emotional intelligence, systematic thinking, commitment to results, self-management, cooperation, customer centricity, critical thinking, analytical skill, problem solving skill, self-organization, learning ability, psychological and stress resistance, flexibility, eco-thinking, cross-cultural skills, and multilanguage.
  7. Relevant skills are ability to learn, tolerance of uncertainty, and curiosity – 43% of Russian employers plan to lay off employees with lack of new technology operating skills (hh.ru).
  8. Companies need not employees but productive entrepreneurs of “teal organizations”.
  9. Only key personnel will work based on employment agreement, for other staff project employment/freelance will become standard practice.
  10. Companies will not look for an employee for a specific position: they need an effective person with his or her own knowledge and experience, who they will create a position for.

If you are not going to retire in the next 5-10 years, be aware that up to 50% of current jobs will just disappear from our economy in this time. Your children – school child – will have professions which do not exist now. And what kind of work will YOU do?
